Coffee Fruit | Unpacking The Research
The Basics
Coffee fruit, also known as coffee cherry, is the outer part of the coffee bean. Historically, it was discarded during coffee production, but modern research shows it has potential health benefits. High in antioxidants, it may fight free radicals, promoting overall health. Research also suggests it could enhance brain health, potentially boosting BDNF, a protein linked to cognitive function. However, although current research into the benefits of bacopa Monnieri look promising, they have not been deemed conclusive by the EFSA, please form your own opinion of the scientific conclusions below.

Cognitive Benefits
Study 1: "Neurophysiological Effects of Whole Coffee Cherry [or Coffee Fruit / Berry] Extract in Older Adults with Subjective Cognitive Impairment (2021): A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Cross-Over Pilot Study"
Conclusion: "This pilot study provides preliminary evidence that WCCE may have beneficial effects on neurophysiological measures of cognitive function in older adults with SCI. However, larger and longer-term studies are needed to confirm these findings and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of action."

Study 2: "Acute Low and Moderate Doses of a Caffeine-Free Polyphenol-Rich Coffeeberry Extract Improve Feelings of Alertness and Fatigue Resulting from the Performance of Fatiguing Cognitive Tasks (2018)"
Conclusion: "These findings suggest that a single dose of a caffeine-free polyphenol-rich coffeeberry extract can improve subjective feelings of alertness and fatigue resulting from the performance of fatiguing cognitive tasks. Further research is needed to confirm these findings and to investigate the underlying mechanisms of action."

Study 3: "Modulatory effect of coffee fruit extract on plasma levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor in healthy subjects (2013)"
Abstract: The study examined Coffee Fruit Extract (CFE) impact on Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), vital for neurogenesis and synaptic plasticity, in 20 individuals. Post a single 500mg CFE dose, a significant rise in BDNF plasma levels was observed, hinting at CFE's potential to improve cognitive function. Further research is needed for confirmation and understanding long-term effects.
